PRP Injection Therapy Procedure Demo Video

This video shows a patient with severe Tennis Elbow ‘Lateral Epicondylitis’ being treated with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection therapy. For my full-length post on this fascinating treatment see: Platelet-Rich Plasma For Tennis Elbow: Does It Work?

Gregory J. Yanish, M.D. Surgeon at Capital Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Iowa, demonstrates the P.R.P. procedure, while narrating a detailed explanation of every step from the initial blood drawing, to the centrifuging process, to prepping the elbow area and finally making the injection.

The injection is guided in real time to the exact desired spot in the tendon using a Ultrasound machine (also known as an ‘Sonogram’) like that used to look at babies in utero.

This is the most detailed and elegant video I’ve seen on PRP (although, a word to the squeamish or needle phobic, needles and blood are visible and the injection process is shown in full.)

For a shorter and less graphic video, see this 3-minute presentation explaining the theory on PRP, by Sports Medicine Doctor, Brian C. Halpern:

Sports Medicine Doctor Explains Platelet-Rich Plasma

(Currently, there doesn’t seem to be very much scientific evidence to prove whether it works or not, but the upside is that it’s minimally invasive, uses a person’s own cells, and is unlikely to have any serious negative effects – not to mention sounding very promising in theory.)
